Monday the 10th

Today was a busy day for us and we had a first today.  We finally got to go to the library!  We got to check out 1 book of our liking.  I have told the students that they may take the book home or keep it with them in their book bags so they may read it when they have a chance.  Everyone was excited to get a book to their liking.  Our classroom does not have quite the selection as the library.

This week we are focusing in on words that have an "r" blend in them such as grab, trick, brick, drip, and trap.  Your students should also be able to recognize the short vowel sounds.  If you have some extra time, practice sounding out some "r" blend words and see if your student can get them.

Also, tomorrow we will begin making our compost bags.  Make sure you bring in some kind of organic material such as, leaves, peelings, egg shells, small sticks, pine needles, or even some dead bugs.  We will put this into our bag with some soil and worms.  The worms will eat away at the organic material making it turn into humus.  We will take a few weeks and watch this happen and make some observations.  Tomorrow will be a fun day in the science world!!
