I
wanted to say a special thank you on a few different topics. First off thank you to all of the parents
that came in Friday (3/15) and made our Spring/Dr. Seuss party a huge
success. I know all of the kids sure had
a good timde. I also want to say thank
you for supporting the Chinese acrobats.
If you sent in your $1 it went to help them with their travel
expenses. They were a treat to watch. This will be our last week before spring
break. I know this time of the year we
tend to get a little restless and excited.
I just wanted to remind everyone that we need to stay focused and be
proactive and always be doing the right thing, even when nobody is looking.
Reading/Phonics/Spelling-
This week we will be reading stories that all center around the theme of “I Can Do It!” We will be reading and discussing the
following stories from our reader; “Nothing
Stops Cory” p 88, “Whistle for Willie”
p 90 and “A Winning Swimmer” p 120. As
we read these stories we will be focusing in on two major reading comprehension
strategies. We will be focusing in on
making inferences and more on using our senses to create images and relate to
the story. We will have some new
vocabulary words and sight words to study this week. This week they are: early, thought, nothing, along, errand, instead, suddenly. If you go please go over those words with
you student it would be much appreciated.
In phonics this week our words will all have the –or sounds. Our spelling words, which are also online,
have the same sounds.
Math-
This
week in math we will be finishing up our study on both solid and plane
shapes. We will be sorting solid shapes
and using plane shapes to build solid shapes.
We are going to have a short assessment on Friday over shapes.
Grammar/Writing-
This week in grammar we be taking our adjectives another step by using number
words. We have discussed how adjectives
can tell what kind and use color words.
Now we are going to talk about how adjectives can tell how many. In our writing this week we will be quickly
reviewing proper nouns, in particularly days of the week. We will be writing about our experiences with
doing things such as baseball, riding bikes, swimming, etc. We will tie our writing into our reading.
Social
Studies- This will be our last week reading
about our communities and families. We
will be tying it all together and making comparisons to our school and
community to other communities around the world and in our book. We have learned words like culture,
celebrate, calendar, rules, neighbors, neighborhood and many more.

Please return your books on Monday. Remember to bring those library books back if they are at home. We will be going to the library to check out
new books.
Be sure to send in those box tops. Every Thursday I send down our bag of box
tops to the office. If you have any box

will get them turned in.
We have collection boxes
